Summer of Pride!
In July 2001, I coined the phrase Summer of Pride in my Wisconsin & Minnesota publication, G-Street, to describe the emergence of pride events in small communities throughout the Midwest. Summer of Pride acknowledges that pride celebrations have moved beyond their beginnings in large metropolitan communities and into more and more rural areas. Summer of Pride also recognizes that, with so many new events taking place throughout the region, GLBT pride celebrations have spread from the Twin Cities, Milwaukee and Chicago events of June's Gay Pride Month into a summer-long string of festivals that have enriched the communities they touch and act as a source of strength to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered people living there.
